Sage Stallone Cause Of Death Revealed: Heart Disease

After Sly's son was found dead in July, it was believed that drugs were the cause, but a toxicology screen reveals it was atherosclerotic coronary artery disease

It turns out the conspiracy theories were all for nothing, because it was heart disease, not drugs, that killed Sage Stallone.

After Sylvester Stallone's son was found dead back in July, many jumped to the assumption that it was drugs that caused the 36-year-old's death. But the Los Angeles County coroner investigating the body has announced that Sage's untimely demise was caused by something much less illicit.

Following an autopsy and full toxicology screening, the coroner determined that it was atherosclerotic coronary artery disease that killed Sage. The only drug found in his system was a "sub-therapeutic" level of Vicodin, People reports.

The full report is supposed to be due out next week.

Stallone had been at Comic-Con promoting his movie The Expendables 2 when word of his son's death hit. The actor released a statement to TMZ opening up about his loss.

"When a parent loses a child there is no greater pain. Therefore I am imploring people to respect my talented son's memory and feel compassion for his loving mother Sasha," Stallone said. "This agonizing loss will be felt for the rest of our lives. Sage was our first child and the center of our universe and I am humbly begging for all to have my son's memory and soul left in peace."

Initial reports had claimed that Sage's death was actually caused by a drug overdose, with friends coming out to claim he had a prescription drug problem. Police seemingly confirmed this when they found large empty prescription bottles at Sage's home during their investigation of his death. Maybe Sage did have a problem with pills, but at least Stallone and ex-wife Sasha Czack can rest easy knowing it wasn't an addiction that lead to their son's passing.
