Salma Hayek

In 2008, Salma Hayek joined the fight to eliminate tetanus in mothers and their newborns forever by becoming the spokesperson for the Pampers/UNICEF One Pack = One Vaccine campaign. The organization seeks to provide vaccinations to mothers and newborns in 27 developing countries where tetanus -- a preventable disease -- is responsible for the death of one baby every three minutes. And as of 2011, more than 31 million tetanus vaccines have been administered. "It's heartbreaking," Salma told ABC's Nightline after she witnessed the death of a newborn named Fatima during her September 2008 trip to Africa’s Sierra Leone. On the same visit, Salma tried to set an example by breastfeeding a hungry infant. Despite the benefits of breastfeeding, local customs frown upon lactatingwomen. “Am I being disloyal to my child by giving her milk away?" asked the mother of Valentina, now 2. "I actually think my baby would be very proud to share her milk.”
