Apologies from the famously unfaithful have certainly been the order of the day, lately. Now, celebrities' mistresses are getting into the act. First Michelle "Bombshell" McGee tried extending an olive branch in an effort to make nice with Sandra Bullock; now, another of Jesse James' extramarital lovers -- Melissa Smith -- also wants to say she's sorry.
Smith (who once had the nerve to don a "Team Sandra" shirt), faxed a letter to Bullock's agent on Sunday, according to TMZ, expressing regret for getting intimately involved with Bullock's estranged hubby.
"I felt I needed to reach out to you and tell you how deeply sorry I am for everything that you've been through," reads Smith's letter. "And I know nothing I can say in this letter is going to make the pain of my actions go away."
The apology message to Bullock went on to say: "I am sorry for any hurt or pain that I have caused you. My actions of engaging with a married man are unforgivable. I never meant you any harm. I compromised my beliefs on several occasions and as a result will never forgive myself."
Considering that the Jesse James scandal became public in mid-March, Smith's effort seems "too little, too late", does it not? In the faxed missive, she closed with a suggestion that Bullock, 45, get in touch for a chat: "Please contact me if you wish to discuss on the phone or in person." Between hiking to relieve stress and reportedly making plans to end the marriage, we're betting the Blind Side star has a to-do list full of far more important priorities.
