When Did Sandra Bullock Get So Funny?

We forgot about the actress' wicked sense of humor until she started promoting her new film, The Heat

While promoting her new comedy The Heat, you'd think Sandra Bullock would be out-funnied at every turn by co-star Melissa McCarthy. Not so! Somewhere along the line, Sandy became one of the funniest talk show guests we've ever seen. To wit, here are two back-to-back interviews showcasing Bullock's sly humor and impeccable timing.

First, there's her Monday night appearance on Chelsea Lately, during which Bullock and Chelsea Handler discussed their naked shower skit from last fall.

"I didn't even want to do something naked. You suggested it," Chelsea teased.

"That's right, I suggested we be naked together in a very vulnerable position with about 30 crew members that I didn't know any of, nor did I know you at the time," deadpanned Sandy.

The next morning, Bullock appeared on Today, where she caught Matt Lauer unawares by bringing up a fight they supposedly had over a year ago.

"Apparently, I got very upset with you, and then you sent me flowers to apologize. I got no flowers," said Sandra.

"Is that what they wrote about us? Do we have a feud?" Matt asked incredulously.

When the Today anchor tried to rectify the situation by grabbing some flowers off the set, he spilled water all over himself. A crew member came to the rescue by presenting Bullock with a bouquet. Her response? "Now who's got the jewelry?"

Has Sandra Bullock always been this funny in real life? We couldn't say, but we can tell you when we first noticed: it was during awards season for The Blind Side, right around the time that her relationship with Jesse James went up in flames. That's when she gleefully accepted her Razzie Award for Worst Actress, made a self-mocking surprise appearance at the Spike TV Guys Choice Awards, and made out with Scarlett Johansson at the MTV Movie Awards. Bullock didn't waste one second letting the world feel sorry for her; instead, she came right back at us with a fierce, fearless sense of humor. We're glad she's held onto it all this time!
