Move over, K-Stew and R-Patz: Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds are competing to be Hollywood's hottest onscreen couple. Bullock, 45, and Reynolds, 33, who starred in 2010's hit rom-com The Proposal, are officially set to reunite in the upcoming action comedy Most Wanted. And everybody wants a piece of the action: according to EW, five studios were competing to cash in on the golden couple before Universal emerged victorious.
What's so magical about Bullock and Reynolds? We all saw how well they played off each other in The Proposal, but plenty of actors have great onscreen chemistry. These two, however, are a totally unique pair: Bullock is a well-loved, middle-aged star at the top of her game, while Reynolds is a young leading man with a career on the rise. Both are highly in demand right now for different reasons (Bullock's renewed "America's sweetheart" status, Reynolds' potential to be the next Hugh Jackman). And because they're such a likeable, charismatic older woman-younger man couple, hardly commonplace in major movies, they bring something different to the table. These two particular stars are both funny, but they share this factor in their appeal: both are incredibly adept at projecting both self-deprecation and confidence.
As for the actual plot of the movie... well, what we know still leaves a little to be desired. Bullock plays a criminal who's being escorted to court by a U.S. Marshall (Reynolds), when they're ambushed and forced to go on the run together. Could be fun, but it echoes other romantic-action-comedies in theaters this year (The Bounty Hunter, Killers, Knight and Day), most of which are pretty forgettable. We'd like to see Bullock aim a little higher with her next film. You have an Oscar and the hearts of America, Sandy -- now's the time to make the rich, exciting, challenging kind of movie you want to see!
