Secret Adoption, Surprise Divorce: How Did Sandra Do It?

Sandra Bullock says that taking care of her newborn son in the eye of a media storm was akin to a "CIA mission"

Only a few weeks ago, we were all begging the paparazzi to "leave poor Sandra Bullock alone!" Turns out, we needn't have worried -- "poor Sandy" can take care of herself just fine.

While the press was busy analyzing Michelle McGee's tattoos and pumping Jesse James' dad for Nazi anecdotes, Bullock was secretly filing for divorce and hiding a 3-month-old adopted baby.

With reporters and photographers trying to get a piece of the actress (a household name whose face is famous around the world) ever since James' infidelities made headlines last month, how the heck did she pull it off?

Bullock compares her January adoption to "a CIA mission," in her new People interview. "Anything we did with Louis had to be pre-planned," she says. "Just the doctors' visits were filled with decoys and dark cars."

Bullock hid the child from many of her close friends and colleagues -- even her make-up artist, who "couldn't understand why I was so tired and needed copious amounts of concealer." As for the scandal, it may actually have helped Bullock keep Louis under wraps. As one celebrity reporter explained to Popeater: "Everyone assumed she was hiding out because of the humiliation Jesse James brought upon her, so I don't think anyone imagined there was another reason for her secrecy! A new baby is such a happy thing, and now we all know that she wasn't being ashamed or hiding out in embarrassment -- she was a mother protecting her newborn."

And while it seemed like Bullock's every move was being snapped by paparazzi, she also managed to file for divorce on April 23 without anyone knowing until now. Since divorce filings are a matter of public record, you'd think that would be impossible. But you'd be underestimating how smart Bullock really is! The actress filed the papers using only her and James' initials... backwards. Family law experts tell People that the legal filing indicates "an amicable settlement" without custody battles or spousal support disputes.

So it turns out that Sandra Bullock had a plan all along. Furthermore, she proved that it's possible for a celebrity to have a private life in the middle of a public firestorm. That's a score of Sandra Bullock: 2, Gossip hounds: 0.
