Poor Sarah Ferguson -- even though she's the Duchess of York, nobody wants to treat her like royalty. After she was caught participating in a humiliating bribery scheme, Ferguson, 50, admitted that she had been drinking too much at the time -- and of course, those are the magic words that bring Dr. Drew to a celebrity's door. According to the National Enquirer, the down-on-her-luck duchess was reportedly offered a million dollars to appear on VH1's Celebrity Rehab. And she was all ready to say yes... until the royal family, via her ex-husband, intervened.
"(Prince) Andrew laid down the law, ordering the mother of his children to end ALL negotiations immediately," says the Enquirer's source. "In the end, Sarah decided the money just wasn't worth all the trouble it was going to cause."
Although we're not sure that doing Celebrity Rehab is any less dignified than doing Weight Watchers commercials (which Fergie cheerfully did in the 1990's), it's easy to understand why the royals won't allow it. Most of Dr. Drew's therapy consists of talking about traumatic, often embarrassing incidents in the patient's past while cameras roll. It sounds like the notoriously private Windsors' worst nightmare. Still, we think that if they're going to stop Fergie from doing televised rehab, they should foot the bill for a nice, private facility where she can get the help she needs. And if the royal family won't lend a hand? Humiliation may be Ferguson's best revenge. We hear that Jersey Shore is looking for new cast members...
