Sarah Jessica Parker has a heart-warming and eloquent story about the first time she met her little baby girls, twins Marion Loretta and Tabitha Hodge, now 10 months old.
She says in the May issue of Vogue “Meeting your children rather than giving birth to them … it’s suspended animation. It’s as if everything disappears for a moment, and the world goes silent and – I can’t explain it except to say that nothing else existed. I don’t remember anything but the blanket on the bed that they were lying on and my husband [Matthew Broderick]’s face and their faces and my son [six-year-old James Wilke]’s. It’s literally as if sound is sucked from the room. Time stands still … it’s so different, and equally extraordinary.”
Wow! It’s hard to remember a time when a celebrity has been that candid about her family and children. (Remember Angelina Jolie … she called Shiloh “a blob!”)
SJP and Matthew hired a surrogate in April 2008 to help expand her family, and the girls were born in June. And the mom of three manages to be totally down-to-earth, while being fabulously fashionable at the same time!
Sarah Jessica confesses she is a real mommy. “I make my children’s food myself. We put together their high chairs ourselves; we do a lot ourselves!” the actress admits. “We do our own grocery shopping … I do my laundry.” Who knew?!
But ever the fashionista, SJP is still knee-deep in fashion. She partnered with Halston as their President and Chief Creative Officer in February. “There was every reason to say no, and there were very compelling reasons to say yes,” she says of her new glamorous gig. “It’s an exciting time at that company … It has a wonderful legacy, and I couldn’t say no.”
She even addresses the talk that she and her Sex and the City crew — Kristin Davis, Kim Cattrall, and Cynthia Nixon — are a little too old to be playing flirting kittens in NYC.
“We’re still playing — uh, I don’t know how old Carrie is! Is she about 42 now? I think Carrie’s younger than I,” says SJP. “Miranda and Charlotte are younger than [the actresses] are in real life. Samantha was always the older lady, so she’s 52 now and talks a lot about what comes with that in the movie. Talks about menopause.”
