Get excited, Buffy fans. Sarah Michelle Gellar returns to TV tonight for her first regular small-screen gig since her cult hit series Buffy the Vampire Slayer went off the air in 2003. And while Gellar won't be beating the fangs off of bloodsuckers in The CW's Ringer, she will have other formidable challenges to face in the eagerly anticipated show.
Chief among those is the fact that she'll be portraying not one but two characters, estranged twin sisters Bridget and Siobhan. And, although the two sibs are dead ringers for each other physically (thus the series' title), their lives and personalities couldn't be more different. Bridget is a recovering alcoholic and the chief witness in a mob murder case; Siobhan is rich, pampered and married to the handsome Andrew (Ioan Gruffud).
But when Bridget, fearing the mob wants to kill her, flees to New York and reunites with Siobhan, she soon finds that her sister's life -- in which no one knows that Bridget exists -- isn't what it seems. After Siobhan mysteriously disappears while on a boating trip, Bridget makes the snap decision to assume her sister's identity (hey, why not?) -- and soon finds that there's a bounty on Siobhan's head as well. SMG just can't catch a break!
It's an enticing premise, and one that's sure to provide plenty of twists -- as well as a welcome double-dose of Gellar. Ringer premieres tonight, Sept. 13, on The CW at 9 p.m. ET. Watch the trailer below!
