Long before reaching the national spotlight, Sarah Heath was crowned Miss Wasilla in 1984. She went on to become the first runner up in the 1984 Miss Alaska pageant, where she was named Miss Congeniality. "She had this look about her, this look in her eyes that tells you she's calculating, figuring out, 'how am I going to win this competition?,' " Miss Alaska winner Maryline Blackburn recalled to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution about Palin. "There was a determination there."
