The rumor of Sarah Palin's chest enhancement is so widespread, even Fox News reported it -- but the former governor of Alaska wants everyone to know that she's a natural woman. On Friday, Fox News' Greta Van Susteren asked Palin flat-out if she'd had breast implants. Palin said that the rumor was ridiculous -- but not before taking one of her usual digs at bloggers.
"I know that 'Boobgate' is all over the Internet right now because there are a lot of, I guess, bored, idle bloggers and reporters with nothing else to talk about," said Palin, 46. "No, I have not had implants. I can't believe, yes, that we're even talking about this."
The one-time vice presidential candidate went on to say that the implant rumor was "about as real and truthful as those reports that Todd and I are divorcing or that I bought a place in the Hamptons or that Trigg is not my own child." Wow -- nothing feeds a rumor mill like Sarah Palin's personal life, does it?
"Boobgate," as Palin has dubbed it, is reminiscent of the ridiculous controversy over Hillary Clinton's cleavage during the 2007 Presidential primary campaign. Both "scandals" demonstrate how much more scrutiny female politicans have to endure than male politicians, especially when it comes to their appearance. (Can you imagine the headlines if Sarah Palin gained 10 lbs.? The horror!) And Palin says that this kind of attention "makes me have to waste time figuring out, what am I going to wear so that nobody will look in an area that I don't need them to look at?" the politician admits. "I want them to hear what it is that I'm saying."
Of course, the most sensible thing for Palin to do is just ignore the gossip, and go on wearing whatever it is she'd normally wear. But maybe female politicians just don't have that luxury.
