Career Decisions Are Family Decisions

Palin has heard the criticism: With five kids at home (and one with special needs), her relentless career drive is misguided -- and selfish. Actually, she says, her kids do get a say in her career choices. "Back in the campaign season of 2004 some Alaskans had suggested that I challenge incumbent Lisa Murkowski in the U.S. Senate race," she writes. "As always, I polled my family. Everybody thought it was a decent idea, until I asked Track." Turns out, her oldest had a question: "'Who would be our hockey manager?' At that point in his life, having an involved mom was more important to him -- and to me -- than having a mom with a powerful position in Washington D.C.," writes Palin. "So it was a pretty easy decision not to run."
