What is your most memorable holiday memory? "It was the year I was pregnant with my girl Lucia. My husband Edoardo and I were spending New Year's in Megeve, a ski station in the French Alps. We were dancing the night away, and I was exhausted. So we go sit down when I feel a part of me still dancing. I look at my body, it is perfectly still. That's when I realize that for the first time Lucia is moving in my belly. My husband and I spent the rest of the New Year's eve party holding my belly hoping for another kick."
What's the best holiday gift you got as a child and why? "A Cabbage Patch Kid. I waited a whole year to get it. I still have it. Lucia plays with it sometimes. It was so special."
What holiday dish or recipe do you cook better than anyone? "A pumpkin pie from scratch, from picking the pumpkins to the golden graham crust, damn it"
What are you thankful for this year? "I am thankful for those life details: being upstairs and hearing my family laugh downstairs, catching my husband checking me out when we're getting ready to go out, sneaking into my kids' bedrooms when they're asleep and stealing all those kisses that they didn't let me give them during the day, my mother, when the marine layer burns off and behind it: a blue sky, Friday nights at the movies, Monday nights with Rizzoli & Isles... you know what I mean... "
What thing you do you keep close by to survive holiday party season? "The thought that if I go to bed too late, waking up with the kids the morning after will be painful. Believe it or not, it works."
