Let’s face it -- given the economy, you’re probably not looking forward to back-to-school clothes shopping this year. At the same time, you don’t want to disappoint your fashion-forward kids. What to do? Go closet shopping!

“Too-large v-necks can be worn backwards with a tank and some leggings a la the 1980s,” offers Jenny Isenman, mom blogger at SuburbanJungle.net, who’s also a former personal stylist. And, if you’ve got a sewing machine and aren’t afraid to use it, take a crew-neck sweater, cut it straight down the front and with a careful hem, you can transform it into a cardigan, says Sarah Jacobs, a mom of three who teaches garment sewing for a living. Give it some extra bling by adding big, chunky buttons salvaged from other old garments.
