Married for two years, Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds kept their relationship private -- and their divorce even more so. Now, in the new issue of Cosmopolitan, Johansson opens up about her marriage, and explains why she and Reynolds parted ways one year ago.

"Relationships are complicated... and being married is a living, breathing process," the actress tells Cosmo (via E! Online). "I think I was not fully aware of the peaks and the valleys. I wasn't prepared to hunker down and do the work."

More specifically, she says, the two very in-demand stars weren't able to make enough time for one another.

"Both of us were extremely busy," she recalls. "We spent so much time apart. It's very difficult. It's bad."

Even so, Johansson, who just turned 27, says she doesn't think she rushed into marriage. In fact, she says that getting married is "the best thing that I ever did."

"I'm a big believer that when something feels right, you should do it," Johansson explains. "I'm a big believer in instinct. Getting married was the right thing to do because it was natural. It grew out of a romance and love and a desire to have a future with somebody, and I was very fortunate that I married somebody who turned out to be the person I thought he would be."

She sounds a little nostalgic, no? After announcing her separation, Johansson moved on almost immediately to a relationship with Sean Penn, which ended after five months. Reynolds, however, has only recently rebounded, dating his Green Lantern costar Blake Lively. Could Ryan's new love be making Scarlett a little jealous? According to Us Weekly, Johansson is upset that Reynolds is no longer pining for her.

"Ryan would have gotten back with her. He was so totally in love,” said a source. "But then she flaunted Sean right after their split, and he was done."

For her part, Johansson admits to Cosmo that she misses "having a partner and a confidant." But the ambitious actress has plenty going for her: She has two major films coming up (We Bought a Zoo and The Avengers), has announced plans to make her directorial debut, and is rumored to be dating the very cute Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Marrying Ryan Reynolds may be the "best thing she ever did," but she's not even 30 yet. She has plenty of time to top herself!
