Scenario: You're suffering from sneezing fits

Solution: Flush out your sinuses

Endlessly achoo-ing? To stop this embarassing cycle, escape to the nearest bathroom, gently blow your nose, then cup your hands under a faucet and fill with them with warm water. Stick your nose into the water and hold it there (breathing through your mouth) for one minute. You don’t need to inhale any of the water into your sinuses, just hold your nose immersed in the liquid as you breathe calmly through your mouth. Then, gently blow a second time. The sneeze-triggering irritants, now water-laden and heavy, will whisk out easily, taking that awful itchy sensation with them, say UCLA researchers.

Why it works: This strategy ejects the itchy irritants that can trigger one sneeze after another, explains Peter Catalano, M.D., an otolaryngologist at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, MA. In fact, nasal washing has been shown to help up to 84 percent of people silence this embarrassing problem, say experts at New York’s Lenox Hill Hospital.
