One Guy's Blog of Mirrors on Sale on Craigslist Is Weirdly Fascinating

Artist Eric Oglander started a blog to show off the wild, weird and funny mirrors he was seeing on Craigslist

If you’re trying to sell something on Craigslist, it stands to reason you’d want to make that thing look attractive and desirable to potential buyers, right? Turns out -- not so much. There are a lot of sellers out there posting really weird photos in the hopes of successfully hawking their homewares. And to Eric Oglander, that’s art.

The artist and frequent Craigslist seller started noticing that “listings for mirrors seemed to produce the most interesting imagery,” he told us, and launched a blog called Craigslist Mirrors to share some of the most noteworthy snaps.

Some of the images are just plain ugly -- like the sale mirror amid an absolutely filthy mess. (No thanks!) Others are hilarious, with pets making cameos, or reflections of people’s crazy wardrobe choices front and center. And then some are surprisingly, hauntingly gorgeous, reflecting unexpected landscapes or natural elements.

"People aren't posting these images with the intention of creating beautiful photographs,” Oglander told us. "It's the haphazard nature that makes them so intriguing. Some are sad. Some are funny. Some are stunningly beautiful.”

So what’s the craziest thing he’s seen?  "It wasn't a listing for a mirror. The seller had photographed a chest of drawers but there was a mirror next to it reflecting his naked body,” Oglander said. So much for attention to detail!

Not sure the piece is our really style, but a reflection like that would sure make our humble home look huge.
