See a Rheumatologist

This is a doctor who specializes in rheumatoid arthritis and other diseases that affect joints. Ideally he or she will be a partner in managing your disease, and will confer regularly with your primary care physician about medications you’re taking and any problems you may experience. If necessary, ask your rheumatologist to refer you to a physical therapist or an occupational therapist to help you learn new ways to exercise and/or to function throughout the day. For a referral to qualified rheumatologists, ask your primary care physician, call your local chapter of the Arthritis Foundation or log onto the member directory at the American College of Rheumatology.
