Seizures: Learn all about seizures

  • Next, protect the head by placing a something soft underneath it such as jacket, sweater, etc. Try rolling the child onto his side and loosen any tight fitting clothing.


  • Put anything in the child's mouth including your finger -- it is impossible to swallow the tongue
  • Give any medications by mouth during the seizure
  • Restrain the child, as this may cause injury

When to get immediate attention

  • If the seizure lasts more than seven minutes
  • If the child stops breathing
  • If the child is less than one year of age
  • Any seizure should be brought to the attention of the doctor by phone
