Just weeks after Selena Gomez announced she was going to be a big sister comes the sad news that her mother has suffered a miscarriage. The 19-year-old singer canceled two holiday performances over the weekend to return home to be with her family.

After Gomez pulled the plug on two Christmas-themed concerts in Chicago and Seattle, her rep explained that it was due to a "family emergency." But then sources close to the family told E! News that the starlet's mother Mandy Dawn Teefey had a miscarriage on Friday.

Gomez had taken to Twitter last month to share the good news that her 35-year-old mother and stepfather Brian Teefey were expecting their first child together.

"Momma and Brian are finally letting me share the news... My mommys carrying my baby brother or sister :) I'm the happiest girl in the world!" she twittered on Nov. 25.

Although a spokesperson for Gomez has yet to respond to the reports, the photo of Mandy Dawn that Selena shared suggests this may have been a second-trimester miscarriage, like Michelle Duggar's recent loss of baby Jubilee.

Our thoughts are with Selena, Mandy and Brian during this sad time.
