One of the great perks of pregnancy (at least for those of us with naturally limp locks) is that your hair fattens up right along with your... other body parts. It’s a nice byproduct of a hormonal surge that causes hair to grow faster and shedding to slow down. The only bummer is that like all good things, temporarily plump tresses must come to an end.
Just ask Selma Blair. After giving birth four months ago to son Arthur Saint, the actress tells People that she’s losing so much hair she’s worried about clogging the shower drain. The loss started around the three-month mark, Blair told the magazine, adding that because she’s not the hair-extension type, “Selma’s going to be bald!”
We doubt that’s going to happen. Experts say that within a few months of giving birth the hair’s growth cycle will return to normal. In the meantime, the excess shedding Blair is seeing is merely the stuff that would have already fallen out if she wasn’t pregnant. Not that we wish ill on anyone, but we’re glad to know that even supernovas aren’t immune to the laws of nature.
