What Kind of September Are You Having?

Don't look now, but September's more than halfway over! Seize the day with a September movie for any mood.

If you’re having a… dramatic September: Watch September, the 1987 Woody Allen drama about six houseguests uncovering each other’s secrets over a rainy New England weekend. Allen’s comedies are better-loved than his dramas, but this one features excellent character work from some of his finest players, including Mia Farrow, Elaine Stritch and Law & Order’s Sam Waterston.

If you’re having a… kitschy September: Watch Come September, a 1961 Rock Hudson comedy about hijinks at an Italian villa. Gina Lollobrigida plays the leading lady (naturally, since it’s a '60s movie set in Italy), but the chemistry between young co-stars Bobby Darin and Sandra Dee is the real attraction: they met on set and married shortly afterwards.

If you’re having a… busy September: Run to your local theater to catch The September Issue, this year’s acclaimed documentary about the assembly of Vogue Magazine’s biggest-ever issue. Watching notorious perfectionist Anna Wintour boss people around for 90 minutes might even make you feel better about your own job.
