Trying to get every gift crossed off your list in one trip? It's not likely when your kids are shopping with you. Recognize and accept that you may very well accomplish less than you think you should -- and adjust your expectations, says Hal Edward Runkel, author of Screamfree Parenting: Raising Your Kids by Keeping Your Cool. "With children along, you can't expect to be efficient," he says. His advice: Limit yourself to an hour or so and cap the number of shops you'll visit. Not only do most kids lack the shopping stamina of adults, they don't share your get-it-done-fast mantra. Don't foget to prep your kiddo for how long the trip will take -- it'll help him (and you) manage expectations.
