It's official: Seth Meyers has taken Jimmy Fallon's job. The Saturday Night Live head writer will become the new host of NBC's Late Night in 2014, when Fallon takes over The Tonight Show from Jay Leno.
"I only have to work for Lorne [Michaels] for five more years before I pay him back for the time I totaled his car," Meyers said in a statement released Sunday. "12:30 on NBC has long been incredible real estate. I hope I can do it justice."
We're loving NBC's choice of Meyers, who deserves more screen time than one Weekend Update segment a week! If you're not already convinced, here are 7 clips that prove the comedian is perfect for the gig.
Remember this sketch?
You may have assumed that Tina Fey had something to do with SNL's classic Sarah Palin/Hillary Clinton cold open -- but per her memoir Bossypants, Seth Meyers wrote the whole thing.
He was adorable with Kelly Ripa.
He wowed the tough crowd at the White House Correspondents Dinner.
In 2011, Meyers hosted the media's annual "nerd prom." Sample joke: "Donald Trump has said he’s running for president as a Republican -- which is surprising because I thought he was running as a joke."
He looks good in a ladies' swimsuit.
Always a good quality in a TV host!
He can totally work a monologue.
Like sports jokes? Check out Seth's opening monologue from the 2011 ESPYs. We're confident he could do this every weeknight.
We really miss "Really?"
Seth Meyers has done lots of great things with Weekend Update, but "Really!?! With Seth and Amy" was the all-time highlight.
He even cracks up Jimmy Fallon.
Last fall, while swapping stories about staying in New York during Hurricane Sandy, Seth had Jimmy in stitches. We're thinking these two will have a lot of fun conquering late night together.
