Apparently, moviegoers can't get 'Sex' soon enough! The highly anticipated Sex and the City 2 isn't out for another five weeks, but fans are reportedly buying up tickets in droves to make sure they won't miss out on opening day.
The anticipation for the movie is so hot, even tickets for next month's other big sequel, Iron Man 2 (which opens May 7, three weeks earlier than SATC 2!) haven't even been available yet for pre-sales.
Harry Medved, spokesperson for movie-ticket website Fandango, said advanced S&TC2 tickets were nearly 20% of the site's daily sales when they first went on sale. But he says the rush is nothing new, as the first Sex and the City movie saw a similar response. "We saw surprisingly strong advance ticket sales on the first one, with many female moviegoers buying tickets en masse, planning screening parties for groups of friends who were flying in from out of town," Medved explained.
The nationwide movie theater chain Regal Cinemas observed a similar level of excitement. Regal's marketing head Dick Westerlin said, "Women across the country are anxious to plan events and activities related to their evening out to see the film, and they want confirmation that they have tickets."
And fans may soon be lining up to hear the film's soundtrack, too. E! Online is reporting that the album, a veritable divas mix tape, features the fierce foursome of Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Davis, and Kim Cattrall belting out Helen Reddy's classic "I Am Woman", Alicia Keys covering Blondie's "Rapture", and Liza Minnelli (who makes a cameo in the film) taking on Beyonce's "Single Ladies"!
Sex and the City 2 hits theaters on May 27, and the soundtrack drops on May 25.
