New Study: He'll Leave You if You're Not Good in Bed

A recent survey says men prefer orgasms to love

Think you and your partner have the perfect bond and even though you don’t have sex as often as you’d like, you know he’s still absolutely devoted to you?

Well, you’re either deluded or one of the lucky ones.

According to a new survey by British retailer Bondara, one-quarter of men reported that having regular orgasms is more important to them than being in love.

While I don’t think any of these guys are necessarily lying, something tells me they’re stretching the truth a little bit. I mean, after all, if regularly scheduled orgasms were more crucial to a guy’s state of happiness than a little thing called love, most dudes would remain single forever. But according to U.S. Census Bureau statistics from 2008 (the latest data available), only 16 percent of men between 40 and 44 had never been married.

Of course it should that Bondara sells sex toys, so those who took part in the poll may not be representative of the general population (and they're Brits, so certainly not the U.S. population). According to the Daily Mail, Bondara polled 3,800 men and women about their orgasm preferences, and found that 16 percent of men and 10 percent of women would terminate a loving relationship if they could not achieve an orgasm with their partner. Thirty-nine percent of men and women said it would surely contribute to the relationship’s demise. Well, duh, isn’t that what sex before marriage is for -- to work out all of those kinks and make sure you’re compatible before saying till death do us part?

As important as sexual satisfaction is in life, I’m not sure that orgasms trump love in a committed relationship. The reason: because 60 percent of the poll takers said they were “very happy” with their relationship in general, but only 17 percent of men and 6 percent of women were happy with their relationship’s sex life. If sex conquered all, the majority of people -- who seem to have a less-than-stellar orgasm record -- would not be at all happy, never mind “very happy,” with the state of their partnership.
