The Voice is undergoing a major change in mentors once again. As Season 4 is winding to a close, original judges Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green are said to be returning, while Shakira is expected to be on her way out.
Considering the fact Shakira, 36, recently gave birth to her first child, Milan, with partner Gerard Pique, it comes as no big surprise that she would want to take some time off to spend with her newborn. Still, it's disappointing that she is leaving the NBC reality competition after only one season because her involvement was a nice change of pace from Aguilera. While XTina's bickering with fellow judge Adam Levine was fun, it's got nothing on the chemistry happening on the current panel of celebrity mentors. We want to hang out with Shakira, Usher, Levine and Blake Shelton all summer!
NBC hasn't made a comment about Shakira's exit, but both host Carson Daly and Shakira herself seem to have confirmed it. "[Milan] deserves a break, and that's why I'm going to take a break for next season," she tells Today. "I'm hoping to get back to my motherhood and get back to the recording studio. You never know what might happen. I might be back at some point."
Meanwhile, it's being reported that Aguilera could land a $12 million payday for her return to The Voice. The Hollywood Reporter's sources say Aguilera will likely that home a paycheck that size, though her return is not unexpected -- and she might not be the only original judge to come back, either. TheWrap says that Cee-Lo is in advanced negotiations to return to the series.
Though one would assume that means Usher is on the way out too, it could be that one of the other judges, Levine or Shelton, could want some time off in Season 5. The Voice is a cozy gig, but both Levine and Shelton are musicians who might want to go on an extended tour or just relax and take some downtime. Ultimately, the changes are all up in the air, but it will be interesting to see who ends up returning next season.
