Sharon Stone formed her steely public persona with an ice pick 18 years ago. And while she may have dozens of films under her belt since Basic Instinct, the 52-year-old actress is still known for her frosty glares and dismissive attitude. Based on this clip from her upcoming guest stint on Law & Order: SVU (NBC, Wednesday, 10 p.m. ET), she won’t be breaking type.
She plays an Assistant District Attorney who happens to have been Detective Stabler’s (Christopher Meloni) former partner on the force. “She trained him when he was a rookie,” executive producer Neal Baer told Entertainment Weekly. He added that she has a knack for saying “the right wrong things.”
To prepare, Stone logged time in a courtroom with a friend who’s an actual ADA. She also researched the part by accompanying female cops on duty in crime-ridden neighborhoods in LA. “And then I went on a ride-around out through the night with a group of undercover drug cops who go out in…bullet-proof vests, helmets and semi-automatic weapons and drug dogs,” she told wsj.com. “And I went on drug raids with them, in some very heavy neighborhoods to see what that was like.” Apparently, the experience confirmed her notion that she’s not cut out for the job. When New York magazine asked if she thought she’d make a good cop, she replied, “No, I have bad vision, and I’m too old.”
Regardless, her SVU costars are happy to have her. "It's always nice to have a pro come in," Meloni told the New York Daily News. "Everyone has a different angle, a different way of tackling a scene, a different style and rhythm - it's like ‘Dancing With the Network Stars.'"
Are there any other big-name actors you’d like to see in a ‘SVU’ guest appearance?
