Move over,
Patti Stanger! You've got big-time
matchmaker competition! Controversial director
Oliver Stone (
JFK,
Natural Born Killers,
Platoon, as well as 1987's
Wall Street) has taken over the title of Celebrity Cupid, and is jokingly taking credit for bringing together
"it" couple Shia LaBeouf and
Carey Mulligan, costars of his latest film, the highly anticipated
Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps.
It was on the set of the Stone's sequel (costarring
Michael Douglas) that
Transformers hero LaBeouf, 23 -- linked to ladies such as
Rihanna and
Megan Fox in the past -- met the Oscar-nominated Mulligan (
An Education), 24. Stone told
People with a laugh that the couple's on-set romance "was all thanks to me."
Stone, in
Cannes to debut the movie alongside his so-in-love actors, spilled some details on the young costars' relationship. "You could see their chemistry right away, and it was pretty powerful," he said. "They were completely professional on the set, but there was no mistaking what was happening."
A gushing Stone went on to say, "I was thrilled when I realized they were going to be an item. It just made their scenes together all the better, especially the love scenes. Let's just say it was no stretch for them."
While their director may not be shy in talking up the romance, LaBeouf and Mulligan have remained rather tight-lipped about it. LaBeouf has said the two aren't a "premiere couple; we're not the red-carpet king and queen," but he did tell GQ in an April interview that he thinks Mulligan is "the most talented actress I've ever met in my life, by leaps and bounds." Everybody all together now: Awwwwww!
