Should the Duggars Have Guns in the House?

Well, the Duggars are at it again. No, they haven’t had any more kids -- that I know of -- but the 19 Kids & Counting family is making headlines for going to extremes. Pictures of John David, 20, and an exchange student staying with the Duggars holding rifles and semi-automatic weapons have recently surfaced. My first question is: Do they really need a foreign exchange student staying there -- isn't their house full enough? My next question is: Why have guns in a home with so many little ones around?

Michelle Duggar explains that in their area of Arkansas, hunting is very common and she reiterated the safety precautions the family takes. For instance, they keep their guns in a safe that can only be opened by a few of the Duggars; they also require their children to take a class before handling a weapon. Jim Bob told RadarOnline.com that "John is very responsible with guns. He's been going to gun safety classes.”

That sounds great, but there are seven kids under the age of 10 living there. Plenty of us have heard stories about a young child who managed to get to a gun, despite his parents' safety precautions. This isn't something many of us would want to risk.

On the other hand, as Jim Bob says, this is their right. At least they have rules and educate their kids about firearms -- that's something everyone who has a weapon in their home should do.

Do you think the Duggars should have guns in the home under the circumstances? Chime in below!
