|Week One: Slow Down and Cut Back |
Americans are the most harried people on the planet. We now work more than any other industrialized nation. In fact, Robert Reich, a former member of the Clinton cabinet, says that we work nine weeks longer than the average European. Wow.
Work isn't the only thing keeping our schedules packed. We have homes to clean, meetings to attend, kids to take care of and many other responsibilities filling up our days. You probably signed up for this Simplify Your Life Community Challenge because you want to find the time for what's most important: family, friends -- and time for yourself to just enjoy. But I'm sure you have some mixed feelings about being here. On the one hand, you understand that you should be living a more relaxed, less hectic life. On the other hand, you probably have some hesitation and fear about changing your lifestyle.
Keep in mind that we can -- and will -- learn from one another how to focus on what's really important during this Community Challenge. You're not going to make these huge changes alone.
This brings me to WEEK ONE. We're going to start this Challenge by slowing down and cutting back on time-wasters. I want you to experience life with more depth and pay attention to your family, your friends and yourself.
