Monica has snagged herself a basketball star! The singer is engaged to L.A. Lakers player Shannon Brown, and she broke the news to the world this past weekend by showing off an enormous engagement ring via Twitter.
Brown, 24, caught the 29-year-old's eye this past summer when he appeared in her "Love All Over Me" video. The two began dating soon after and have now taken the next step. Though Monica acknowledges that some may think she's rushing into the marriage, the couple is not letting others' judgments influence them.
"We realize people will have their opinions," Monica Twittered. "That's the way of the world. But we know who we are & who's we are...So for all my real supporters who are happy for me. I thank u, I love u, & I'm realistic enough about life."
Just a few months ago, Monica split from longtime beau Rodney "Rocko" Hill, with whom she has two children -- Rodney, 5, and Romelo, nearly 2.
