Just because Jersey Shore has gone away, doesn't mean its stars have. Apparently, Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino is returning to the small screen in a new reality television show focusing on his life and his family.
TMZ reports the new series has already started shooting, though it's unclear whether a network is attached to it. Our first thought was that maybe he's just filming himself and desperately hoping to sell it -- kind of like when Philip Seymour Hoffman's character shot his own E! True Hollywood Story in Along Came Polly. But we'll just have to wait and see.
Jersey Shore aired its final episode on Dec. 20, 2012, but its most popular stars have continued to make television. Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi and Jennifer "JWoww" Farley teamed up for the MTV series Snooki & JWoww, which started airing its second season on Jan. 8. Meanwhile, Vinny Guadagnino's hybrid talk show and reality show based out of his mom's house, The Show with Vinny, is slated to premiere on MTV on May 2.
We can see why The Situation would want to be the next Jersey Shore alum to continue his reality TV career -- but we can't help but feel he's a little old to keep up the party behavior that made him famous. He's almost 32, and somehow we just can't picture audiences finding his sleazy player ways as amusing now as they did in his 20s.
With that being said, he was one of the most memorable personalities to come out of the show. Maybe there still are enough die-hard GTL fans out there to make this new show a success -- and if not, he'll just have to get more creative. After all, if we've learned anything from the Teen Mom alums, it's that you have to be willing to do pretty much anything to stay in the headlines.
