Myth 1: Sugar-Free Candy Has Fewer Calories

Halloween candy labels can be tricky, and if you’re not careful you could be consuming many more calories than you expect. For instance, when it comes to candy, sugar-free doesn’t mean calorie-free, says iVillage health editor-at-large Madelyn Fernstrom, Ph.D., CNS. From jelly beans to chocolate, most candy made with sugar substitutes has just as many calories as sweets made from sucrose (white sugar).
