About 25 years ago when I was ten I remember raking the front yard and just working my little heart out. I was the runt in the family with three much bigger brothers one of whom was younger than me. That day my dad explained to me that size doesn't make a man; it's what is in his heart that matters. I thought that was easy for him to say - he is 6'4" tall. Later that night after I had struggled to take out the trash, my dad came into my bedroom and gave me a hug and a rubber alligator toy. I kept that toy for the longest time and never forgot that day or what my dad had told me.
My son is 11 and not long ago I found myself telling my son the same thing his grandpop told me 25 years ago.
