James Bond doesn't strike us as the kind of guy who likes to play games -- but, as the brand-new trailer for Skyfall (a.k.a. the 23rd 007 film) reveals, the man sure does have a knack for word association. "Murder?" a prison psychiatrist asks. "Employment," Bond nonchalantly replies. How we've missed you, James. Watch the official teaser trailer below!
The action-packed clip offers everything we'd expect: Daniel Craig (back for his third go-around as MI6's prized Agent 007) plummeting through the air, squeezing off a few rounds on his trusty Walther PPK, sprinting through the streets, standing around shirtless and, in that fashion signature to Craig, shooting icicles out of his eyes at anyone who dares look at him.
Also as we've come to expect from the Craig era of super-secret Bond films, there is nary a plot detail in sight. When that prison psychiatrist says the word "Skyfall," 007 pauses for effect and then spits back, "Done." While that gives no indication (whatsoever) what Skyfall is, the mention of it clearly leaves Bond shaken and stirred.
Perhaps it has something to do with 007's longtime handler M (Dame Judi Dench)? The official synopsis does suggest that, vaguely hinting that "MI6 is under attack" and that "Bond's loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her."
Also left unanswered by the teaser trailer are these queries: Who is Ralph Fiennes playing? Will Adele be singing the theme song (as she's rumored to be)? How will the new Bond girls, French TV star Berenice Marlohe as the enigmatic Severine and Pirates of the Caribbean actress Naomie Harris as MI6 agent Eve, fit in? And what's the deal with the film's big baddie -- who's played by Oscar winner Javier Bardem, but got zero screen time in the trailer?
So many questions! But we're sure at least a few of them will be answered before Skyfall, which is directed by American Beauty helmer Sam Mendes, hits theaters Nov. 9.
