Start slow

To prevent heat stress in kids, the intensity of activities that last 15 minutes or more should be reduced whenever high heat and humidity reach critical levels. At the beginning of strenuous exercise or after traveling to a warmer climate, the intensity and length of exercise should be limited initially and then gradually increased over a week or two so kids can get used to the heat, particularly if it's very humid.
