'Smash'

New Season Premieres: Feb. 5 at 9 p.m. ET on NBC

In case you didn't hear, Smash wasn't a smash. But this high-profile musical drama (about the Broadway types putting on a Marilyn Monroe-themed production) has gotten a new showrunner (Gossip Girl's Joshua Safran) and some grand-scale retooling. Jennifer Hudson and Liza Minnelli are both set to guest star in season 2, and producers promise to take more risks with its storytelling. "Some things you’ll fail with because being audacious doesn’t always fly," NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt told Entertainment Weekly. "But I think we have to be audacious or we’re dead."
