Video: How to Create a Smoky Eye for Day and for Night

Learn the easy DIY steps for a basic smoky eye, plus how to do a metallic twist on the makeup look.

To DIY a basic smoky eye, start with concealer on the eyelids, then apply a nude eyeshadow. Next, brush a dark shadow in the crease of the eyes and on the outer corners. To fill in the rest of your lid, dab on dark shadow instead of using brush strokes. Line the upper and lower lashes along the waterline with a black or dark brown pencil and smudge with a brush. Mascara and a highlighter pencil at the brow bone complete the look. For an autumnal take, dab shimmery copper metallic shadow over the lid.
