The Kardashian family is the very definition of overexposed, but there's one place we haven't seen them in quite some time: Saturday Night Live. Finally, on this week's episode (hosted by Lady Gaga), we got the Kim Kardashian/Kanye West sketch we'd been waiting for. And it was amazing.
"Waking Up With Kimye" imagines that West and Kardashian have their own morning chat show (a favorite SNL device -- remember "Coffee Talk?"). Just like in the real-life media, Kanye (Jay Pharaoh) does a lot of talking, but Kim (Nasim Pedrad) gets all the attention. There's a great Gaga cameo, too. Watch it below!
If Kanye was upset about that Jimmy Kimmel sketch (he was), we can only imagine how he'll react to this one. Will he boycott SNL for life? Will he start a Twitter feud with Lady Gaga? We all know that Kanye's least favorite thing is to be laughed at.
And yet, there is so much that's so funny about him! His constant insistence that he's a genius, even if it's true, is comedy gold. Now that he's declared Kim a genius, too, how could SNL resist skewering them? The highlight of the sketch is probably the moment that Kim shows off her homemade macaroni necklace, followed by Kanye bellowing, "Y'all hear that? She just changed the game! Food is jewelry now!"
"Waking Up with Kimye" may be a new (and hopefully recurring!) sketch, but SNL has been spoofing the Kardashians for years. Here are a few of our favorites:
The Kardashian Divorce Special aired before Kim's marriage to Kris Humphries, and then basically came true a few months later. Kristen Wiig's pathological Kris Jenner is the highlight of this one.
When Dana Carvey hosted in 2011, the Kardashian sisters got a chance to meet the Church Lady. Why did Kim pose nude in W magazine? Could it be... Satan?
In 2009, the Kardashian sisters (played by Pedrad, Vanessa Bayer and Abby Elliott) took a moment to wish us all a happy holiday.
Kim visited "Weekend Update" in 2009 to talk about her sister Khloe's wedding. "Khloe's dress was so stunning," she told Seth Meyers. "When I watched her walk down the aisle, I looked so beautiful."
Kanye has already expressed his displeasure with SNL's Kardashian spoofs. Back in May, when he appeared as musical guest, the rapper threatened not to show up if SNL dared to make fun of Kim. If only he could take a cue from Lady Gaga: she made fun of herself in every sketch on Saturday, and it didn't take away from the power of her musical performances one bit.
