If you're a fan of Kate McKinnon's impression of Ellen DeGeneres on Saturday Night Live -- and boy, is it spot on! -- then you'll love this. On yesterday's Ellen, McKinnon gamely accepted DeGeneres' offer to impersonate her right there on the show. Watch below, as the jaunty pair squirm in their seats and dance through the audience together:
At first, DeGeneres appeared a bit shy when facing her twin. Then again, she may have simply been scaling back her signature exuberance, giving McKinnon a chance to really ham it up. It's hard to say which was better -- seeing how good McKinnon's Ellen impression really is, or watching her genuine delight in meeting the woman she spoofs. We give this celebrity-meets-impersonator showdown a 5 out of 5.
But Ellen isn't the only celebrity who has come face-to-face with her Saturday Night Live doppelganger. Here we rate six other meetings between stars and the SNL cast members who impersonate them:
Snooki/Bobby Moynihan: 4 out of 5
Snooki was a good sport, playing along with Moynihan as they mused about the incredible year she had in 2010. Of course, with Snooki, you can never be sure that she understands just how funny she (inadvertantly) is. That's why Moynihan got 4 stars instead of 5: When the chick you're impersonating is already as wacky as a Saturday morning cartoon, the jokes kind of write themselves.
Sarah Palin/Tina Fey: 5 out of 5
Sure, the real Palin was a little stiff, but to her credit, she did go along with the joke. And has there ever been a more perfect impersonation of a human being than Fey's VP candidate? If they had a Hall of Fame for impersonations, this one would be the first honoree.
Amy Poehler/Hilary Clinton: 4 out of 5
Poehler just doesn't bear the kind of a physical resemblance to Clinton that serves as an advantage when Fey plays Palin. But she did get the laugh right, and Clinton was self-aware enough to have a sense of humor about her relentless political-mindedness.
Robert DeNiro/Jimmy Fallon: 4 out of 5
Fallon's impression is so good, you have to hand it to DeNiro for not cracking up. DeNiro's impression of Fallon, on the other hand, could use some work.
The Kardashians/Nasim Pedrad, Abby Elliot and Vanessa Bayer: 2 out of 5
To be fair, this meeting took place at a TV industry event and was probably pulled together quickly. But the Kardashian sisters came off as stiff (and Kim seemed shrill), while their impersonators just seemed...nasally.
Miley Cyrus/Vanessa Bayer: 4 out of 5
Bayer does a pretty good Miley, capturing her giddy spirit, if not all her mannerisms. Since this sketch isn't exactly Miley-meeting-Miley (but Miley meeting Miley-as-Justin Bieber), the moment can't exactly be judged against the others. But it's still hilarious.
