Jersey Shore's Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi might be a best-selling author and famous reality television star, but she isn't going to be spending all her hard-earned pennies any time soon. Wearing an outfit that she says probably cost "like 50 bucks total," the 23-year-old tells GQ magazine that she's been saving her cash -- just in case her fame doesn't stick around forever.
Want to know who isn't thinking with that money-saving mindset? Her six-pack sporting costar, Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino.
"Jersey Shore is going to end soon," Snooki says in the interview. "I'm not going to spend money like Mike (The Situation). He's already broke!"
That's pretty impressive considering The Situation is reported to have taken in somewhere around $2.5 million in the past year alone. Snooki, meanwhile, is estimated to have made $750,000 between her income from MTV's hit show and sales of her (semi-autobiographical) novel A Shore Thing. Her second book, the nonfiction tome Confessions of a Guidette, was released Oct. 25.
Jersey Shore just wrapped season 3 and is more successful than ever -- so it likely isn't going away anytime soon -- but it's somewhat surprising to see that Snooki doesn't have delusions about the show's staying power. Also surprising is that Polizzi calls the GQ meet-up the "first real interview I ever did in my life!"
"I've never really had to think in an interview," she admits. What about her interview with Barbara Walters? "I didn't even think with her."
Even making statements like that, Snooki says she and her fellow cast members are smarter than they look. She doesn't think any of the footage of them that's shown on Jersey Shore is going to change perceptions of them anytime soon -- but that doesn't mean that she's going to make a point of keeping up appearances in public.
"I wouldn't show as much drinking and partying. I would show more of us chilling out and having a good time -- which they don't show," she says. "We don't even drink those nights, but we laugh all night. They don't show anything but us drinking and hooking up."
So why doesn't that footage make it on the air? "Maybe because of the success of the show, they think that if they don't show us drinking and hooking up then it wouldn't stay successful," Snooki suggests. "But I think that if they showed the sober side of us people would like it even more, and it'd even change people's minds about us."
Case in point: Snooki voted (for McCain) in the 2008 election, and she went to college to be a veterinary technician. "I can induce an animal, do surgery, do anesthesia, and take blood," she boasts. "I've actually worked with ducks, drew blood from a horse, and stuck my hand in a cow's ass." (OK, maybe that last one doesn't fall in the category of a "boast.")
So while she's still going to be portrayed as ditzy "Snooki" on Jersey Shore, don't expect Nicole Polizzi to stay hidden forever.
