Look, y’all. I grew up in Georgia. If a can of carbonated cola-flavored beverage has the word "Pepsi" scrawled across the front, I’m still going to call it a Coke. (But I wouldn't drink it because, taboo!) I’m also never going to stop saying "y'all" even though I left the South sixteen years ago.
Isn't it interesting how certain words or phrases stick with you depending on what region of the country you're from? The Atlantic recently created this great video where they recorded people on the phone while asking them what they called certain words, like "pecan" and "umbrella." Their project is based on the research that came out of the fascinating 2003 Harvard Dialect Survey.
