Who doesn't love Sofia Vergara on Modern Family? Maybe that's why the funniest moments of her Saturday Night Live hosting stint came when she was channeling Gloria Delgado-Pritchett. "I came here all the way from a small, Colombian town called Barranquilla," she said during her opening monologue on Saturday. "Barranquilla is a Spanish word that means 'Cleveland.'"
The Colombian coquette continued to deliver thick-accented social commentary on her life after arriving in "Ah-mer-ee-ca." "I always heard that immigrants had a really hard life when they came to America," Vergara stated. "But when I showed up here, everyone was so nice! The men bought me drinks and offered me a place to sleep. This country welcomed me with open arms and pulled down pants. "Watch her monologue here:
When Kristen Wiig revived her famed character, Gilly, Vergara ably stood in for Will Forte as Gilly's latest frustrated teacher. Though the sketch called for Vergara to play it straight, she managed to inject humor into her ditzy teacher character. Watch the clip here:
In the recurring sketch "Being Quirky with Zooey Deschanel," Vergara did a terrible impression of Fran Drescher, but was funny nonetheless -- maybe that was the point? Watch the clip here:
Vergara also played a peppy Hunger Games reporter who thinks the life-and-lots-of-death competition is "a total blast." "They should call it the Funger Games," she cries, "because everyone is having so much fun!" Watch the clip here:
All in all, Vergara came off well. We may not have seen what else she has in her bag of tricks as an actress, but she stuck to what she does best -- she was her hilarious self!
