Sofia Vergara shows off her bikini-ready body in the new "Sex" issue of Esquire. The Modern Family star, who graces the April cover wearing sexy black lingerie, talks about body image and the cultural differences between acceptable beachwear in the new interview.
The Colombian actress explains that when it comes to bathing suits, less is more -- and when she first saw a more conservative "American" bikini, she wasn't impressed.
"I was like, What is that? It's like a diaper," the model-turned-actress tells the magazine. "It's terrible. Who can look good in that? When I moved to the United States, I used to have bathing suits brought up from Colombia."
Vergara, who was once ill-advised to get a breast reduction to make it in Hollywood, admits that she doesn't think string bikinis are that provocative.
"There's nothing slutty about a dental-floss bikini," the 39-year-old actress continues. "You don't even think about it. The first bathing suit your mother buys you is in the shape of a triangle."
Acknowledging that her breasts are "ridiculously huge," Vergara explains that she grew up surrounded by beautiful, hourglass-figured family and friends.
"In Colombia everybody's very voluptuous and you're supposed to be," Vergara says. "You don't want to be skinny when all of your cousins are mermaids. You grow up thinking that's how beauty is."
