South Beach Diet

Diet: South Beach Diet
What it is: Cardiologist Arthur Agatston designed this diet as an alternative to low-fat and low-carb diets. He focuses instead on eating foods low on the glycemic index as well as "good fats" (no trans fats or saturated fats) and "good carbs" (i.e. no refined sugars and grains).
Who it’s for: It's great for those who hate counting calories, don't mind cooking and think low-fat diets are no fun. It's also good for those fruit and veggie lovers who felt deprived on the Atkins diet.
Sample meal: Grilled Sesame Salmon
Cost: $11 to $17 for the book, plus the cost of food
