A special Mother's Day dinner

  • Create or purchase a flower bouquet for the table using mom's favorite flowers
  • Place an individual flower at the place setting where mom is to sit.
  • Take individual photos of your family members, place them in inexpensive Silver plate frames and use them as place cards at each place setting. Perhaps, you can find pictures that also have your mom in them and for mom A picture of her with all the children. Let your guests take them home at the end of the evening.
  • Keep in mind mom's dietary restrictions when planning the menu. No need to tempt her with prosciutto if she is on a restricted salt diet.
  • Place mom at the head of the table.
  • Do a champagne toast to mom. Perhaps have each child say a few words about why mom is so special.
  • Dress up.
  • As mothers day is Sunday, your dinner should be on the early side so that it doesn't go too late in the evening.
  • Put aside any family differences on moms special day.
  • Serve moms favorite foods or prepare a dish which you enjoyed that mom used to make when you were growing up.
  • Set the table using plates, bowls, silver etc. which mom may have given you.
  • Arrange to have someone pick up and drive mom home if she happens to live alone. If she lives a great distance, have her spend the night or perhaps consider inviting her for the weekend and having your celebratory meal on Saturday instead of Sunday. In which case on Sunday, mom could be served breakfast in bed or treated to a brunch either in the home or perhaps at a restaurant.
  • Make reservations early at the restaurant of your choice so that you will not be dissapointed.
  • If you have young children have them create a mothers day card in lieu of purchasing one.
