Is Spencer Pratt getting soft? The reality villain has been dogging his estranged wife Heidi Montag in the tabloids and on Twitter since their split a few months ago -- and even threatened to release a sex tape of her. But has he suddenly seen the error of his ways?
On Wednesday, Pratt told People.com that he wants to apologize for his past behavior, intends to do some "intense soul searching," and plans to pursue "appropriate avenues for my issues."
"Divorce can be a trying, draining, and emotionally devastating experience for all involved," The former Hills star, 27, says. "Despite these hardships, most individuals manage to conduct themselves with dignity and maturity. I did not – I failed spectacularly."
As for how he's treated Montag, Pratt isn't proud of his actions. "I horribly embarrassed the one person that meant the world to me," he says. "For my outrageous and infantile behavior, I offer Heidi my most sincere apologies."
There have been months of speculation that the whole Speidi divorce has been fabricated by the couple, in an effort to maintain their status as King and Queen of the tabloids. And this sudden apology would seem to fit in with the possible hoax, especially if it were to lead to a reconciliation for the couple.
"Over the years, her love, support, and friendship were always given, but never properly cherished. I let her down," Pratt added. "She never deserved the pain and anguish I put her through, and although I don't expect it, I hope in time she'll be able to forgive me. Even though our relationship has changed, I will always count her among my best friends."
