And that's the premise of The Moment, the new USA Network reality series that gives ordinary Americans the chance to call do-over on their careers and get a second shot at the dream jobs they once pursued.
The series, which premieres on April 11 at 10/9 C, is hosted by All-Pro, Super Bowl-winning quarterback Kurt Warner, who certainly knows a thing or 20 about second chances. After going undrafted by the NFL following his college career at the University of Northern Iowa, Warner returned to his Cedar Falls hometown and stocked shelves at a grocery store while still dreaming of making it to the NFL.
Stints as a graduate assistant coach at his alma mater and as a QB in the Arena Football League followed, and then he landed a tryout with the Chicago Bears -- which he had to decline after his throwing elbow was injured by a spider bite he suffered during his honeymoon.
Finally, in 1998, Warner was signed by the St. Louis Rams … and made a rather lackluster start. Eventually, he sparked with the team, and was named the NFL's MVP by the end of the 1999 season. He led the Rams to a Super Bowl XXXIV win, holds more than a dozen NFL records, and was the recipient of the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award in 2008, all while raising seven children with wife Brenda.
So, again, yeah, Warner knows about getting second chances and never giving up on pursuing your dreams. In the series premiere, he introduces viewers to Bob Capita, who was going to be a part of the 1980 U.S. Olympic sailing team, until the U.S. boycott of the 1980 games. Bob's dad then pressured him to join the family business in the name of more practical work, and though he did, it caused a fracture in their relationship that was not healed before Bob's dad died.
Now, Kurt Warner is hooking Bob up with the chance to train with America's Cup champ and Hall of Fame sailor Gary Jobson, to perhaps win a job leading an America's Cup-level yacht himself. But along with the opportunity, Kurt will also help Bob face some important questions.
Questions like: is a second chance at your dream job worth the sacrifices it will mean for your loved ones?
