Spotting After Sex in the Postpartum Period
I have a 21-week-old son. I have just started to exercise again and I find that after exercise, and after sex, I tend to have some very light brownish-pink spotting. I am wondering if this is related to my fairly recent birth. I have had a pap smear at six weeks postpartum and it was negative. The obstetrician said that everything looked good. I did a pregnancy test (I am exclusively breastfeeding) and it was negative. Any ideas on the cause of this bleeding.

This bleeding may very well be related to your last pregnancy. Just the physical manipulation of the cervix, which is still healing, or orgasm that makes the uterus contract can cause light spotting.
I am assuming that you have had no menses yet. This could also be related to hormonal fluctuations but you are correct to think about pregnancy. Spotting can also be related to the use of a diaphragm or birth control pills if you happen to be using either of these.
Certain infections, such as chlamydia, can cause spotting after sex. If it continues, call your care provider and have it checked out.
